Body of Lawrence man found in Kansas River

Investigators have identified a body recovered from the Kansas River this morning as a 49-year-old Lawrence man. No evidence of foul play has been found so far, according to law enforcement officials.

The body of Dwight Sexton, 49, of Lawrence, was discovered about 10 a.m. by a boater near the Kansas University Boat House, northwest of Burcham Park, said Lt. Steve Lewis, a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman. The sheriff’s office has jurisdiction over the river.

The investigation so far has produced no evidence of foul play, Lewis said. An underwater search team recovered Sexton’s body. The cause of death is not yet known, and an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, Lewis said.
