A federal lawsuit filed by a Lawrence woman against Wal-Mart alleging sexual harassment and discrimination has been dismissed.

A federal judge in Kansas City, Kan., ordered the case closed on July 1 after attorneys representing the woman and the Wal-Mart company “confirmed they have settled and compromised” the suit, according to court records. The judge’s order did not record whether the case was dropped or a settlement was reached.

According to the suit, filed in January in the U.S. District Court, the woman alleged that she was sexually harassed by several co-workers at the Wal-Mart store at 3323 Iowa and that management did not take disciplinary action when notified of numerous incidents. The incidents were alleged to have occurred in 2011, and the woman resigned from the store in 2012.

A response to the suit, filed in May by Wal-Mart’s attorneys, generally denied the allegations but also said the company would not be liable for the behavior of employees named in the suit. At least one of those employees was fired sometime after the woman quit working at the store.

The Journal-World’s attempts to reach a Wal-Mart representative, or attorneys representing the two sides in the case, were unsuccessful.
