Young musicians to show talent at piano competition at KU

The talent of some of the country’s best young piano players will be on display this week in conjunction with the International Institute for Young Musicians International Piano Competition.

Participating pianists are among about 90 youths ages 9 through 19 attending the Lawrence-based institute’s Summer Music Academy on the University of Kansas campus, and winners will take home $18,000 in prizes.

The public may attend the International Piano Competition Finals from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Swarthout Recital Hall in Murphy Hall on the KU campus.

The Winners Concert is from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at Swarthout, with a reception following. Tickets are $10, or free for children 8 and younger.
