Three Lawrence students nominated as Presidential Scholars

Three Lawrence high school seniors have been nominated for the Presidential Scholars Program, one of the nation’s highest academic honors for high school seniors.

Yu Khung Lee and Luke Matthews of Lawrence High and Katherine Guyot of Free State High are among 57 students in Kansas nominated for the award.

The awards are sponsored by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars and the U.S. Department of Education. The awards are given each year to as many as 141 students based on their academic or artistic achievement.

Semifinalists will be announced this spring. Final winners will be invited to the National Recognition Weekend in Washington in June, including a medallion ceremony sponsored by the White House.
