Beverly Gossage, of Eudora, says she will run for the Republican nomination for Kansas insurance commissioner.

Gossage, who described herself as a conservative, pro-life Republican, said she will fight against the Affordable Care Act, signed into law by President Barack Obama and often called Obamacare.

Gossage is director of HSA Benefits Consulting.

“I believe that I am uniquely qualified to make our state a model for the nation when it comes to taking every action to fight against this law and build consumer-driven health reform with greater competition and choices,” she said.

Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger, a moderate Republican, has urged state officials to work in partnership with the federal government to implement aspects of the law. Praeger, a former legislator from Lawrence, has indicated she will not seek re-election.

The Republican Party primary is in August 2014.

Gossage said she is a former school teacher in Lawrence who became an insurance agent in 2002.
