Series to address domestic violence

The Willow Domestic Violence Center will provide free public training sessions covering a variety of topics related to domestic violence.

The sessions will be held throughout February and March.

Scheduled sessions

• Saturday, Feb. 2, 3 to 4 p.m.: “Domestic Violence 101.” The session will cover basic aspects of domestic violence, including the definition of domestic violence and contributing factors.

• Wednesday, Feb. 6, 5:45 to 6:45 p.m.: “In Her Shoes.” The workshop will provide a view of the realities of living with domestic violence.

• Wednesday, Feb. 6, 6:45 to 7:45 p.m.: “Myths, Facts, Causes, and Effects of Domestic Violence.” The session will deal with the myths and stereotypes surrounding domestic violence as well as its contributing factors.

• Saturday, Feb. 16, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. “Isms and Domestic Violence.” The session will inform the audience of how discrimination can create barriers for domestic violence survivors.

• Wednesday, Feb. 27, 6:45 to 7:45 p.m.: “Domestic Violence and Poverty.” The workshop will focus on showing the influence poverty has on domestic violence.

• Saturday, March 2, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: “Safety Planning with Survivors of Domestic Violence.” The session will help the audience learn how to help or support those suffering from domestic violence.
