From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Jan. 27, 1988:

  • A public vote on the most recent retail plans for downtown Lawrence was not to be held until late April or early May. Members of the Downtown Improvement Committee had discussed the timing of a public vote at its last meeting before submitting a report on the project to the city commission.
  • A major study released this week showed that an aspirin every other day cut the risk of heart attacks nearly in half. Heart experts said that the research gave strong evidence for using aspirin as a major weapon against the nation’s No. 1 killer.
