KU student charged with rape

A 21-year-old Kansas University student has been charged with raping a young woman.

The man was arrested about 10 p.m. Sunday at the Lawrence Police Department’s training center, 4820 Bob Billings Parkway, according to the Douglas County Jail booking log. The complaint alleges the man had intercourse with the young woman while she was not able to give consent because of the effects of alcohol.

He remained in custody at Douglas County Jail and appeared by video in Douglas County District Court on Tuesday.

Pro Tem Judge James George set the man’s bail at $35,000, with the condition that he not contact any victim or witness in the case. He next appears in court Jan. 29.
