Relay For Life preparation begins

Douglas County Relay For Life will hold a kickoff event for team captains from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 22 at the Free State High School library, 4700 Overland Drive.

Betty Parks of Douglas County Relay For Life said the event will help those wanting to put together teams for the event on June 7.

There will be information packets available as well as computers to help captains register their teams.

“We want to invite former team captains or anyone who is interested,” Parks said. “If they have a neighbor or relative suffering from cancer and they are looking for a way to help, this is a way that they can get started.”

Parks said Douglas County Relay For Life was the largest relay in the state last year with 856 registered participants and 75 teams. Proceeds from the relay benefit the American Cancer Society.
