Lawrence man chases two burglars, one armed with a knife, from apartment

A Lawrence man reported finding two intruders, one armed with a knife, robbing his apartment in the 2300 block of Murphy Drive Sunday night, and police are still looking for the suspects.

Police responded to the incident about 10:20 p.m. Sunday, said Kim Murphree, a Lawrence Police Department spokeswoman. The man told police he was in the shower when he was alerted to the intruders by banging noises.

He found two men in his living room, one armed with a knife, stealing a video game system and money.

The resident said he told another person in the home to stay out of sight and slammed a door to scare off the intruders, who fled the apartment. He said he followed them outside but lost sight of them in the dark as they ran south on Murphy Drive. The man reported to police that the door to his apartment was unlocked. He valued the stolen items at more than $1,000.

Anyone with information on these crimes is asked to call the Lawrence Police Department at 785-832-7509 or the TIPS Hotline at 843-TIPS(8477).
