Landlords and others who have an opinion about whether the city ought to expand its rental registration program are being asked to attend a Monday afternoon meeting.

The city will host a meeting at 4 p.m. Monday at City Hall to gather feedback on the idea of requiring all rental units in the city to be registered and licensed by the city.

The city currently only requires rental units in single family zoning districts to be registered and licensed. But leaders in various multifamily neighborhoods have asked the city commission to consider expanding the program.

In late November, a majority of city commissioners expressed support for expanding the program — which would require periodic safety inspections of rental units — citywide.

City staff members now are in the process of recommending an implementation plan and have pledged to get input from landlords and other stakeholders before making a recommendation.
