Aquahawks openings: The Lawrence Aquahawks swimming team is always accepting new members. The Aquahawks are a year-round USA Swimming-sponsored competitive swim team. The Aquahawks offer a swim lesson program and competitive swim team for all ages. The Aquahawks are coached by professional coaches with weekly practices geared toward a variety of skill levels. Basketball academy: The Reign Basketball Academy, designed for ages 7-17, is Lawrence’s newest basketball-specific training. The academy offers 1-on-1 and group training. Winter Baseball Academy: Free State and Lawrence high schools will be hosting their winter baseball academy again this year. Players grades K-8 will have the opportunity to work on defense, pitching, catching and hitting Sunday evenings at LHS and Free State. Dates are Jan. 13, 20 and 27 and Feb. 10, 17 and 24. Salvation Army league: The AAU Salvation Army Basketball Draft League will run January through March and is taking coaching applications. Wheelhawks tournament: Kansas Wheelhawks will host a tournament this weekend at the East Lawrence Rec Center, 1245 East 15th Street. Games are at 8:30, 10, 11:30 a.m. and 1, 2:30 and 4 p.m. Saturday, and 8:30, 10 and 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday. Volunteers needed to run the shot clock and scoreboard and keep the scorebook.

MAYB tournament: MAYB will host a basketball tournament in Lawrence for boys and girls in third through eighth grades on Jan. 19. There is a three-game guarantee, and the cost is $165. Games will be played at Lawrence High and Free State. For more info visit www.mayb.com
