KU softball shut out, 1-0

— Kansas University sophomore Alicia Pille allowed just one run and struck out six over six innings, but the Jayhawks managed just four hits in a 1-0 shutout loss to Texas A&M-Corpus; Christi on Thursday.

“We need to be more aggressive,” KU coach Megan Smith said. “I think we were really passive in all areas of the game today.”

Corpus Christi (3-8) scored its only run on a bases-loaded walk in the third.

Senior captain Maggie Hull battled a stomach virus prior to the game, but was able to make her 170th-consecutive start by stepping in at the designated player position and was one of four Jayhawks to record a hit. She and the other three captains, Alex Jones, Maddie Stein and Mariah Montgomery each hit singles.

Kansas (7-3) will kick off the Islander Classic today. KU will face TAMU-CC at 11 a.m. and Auburn at 1 p.m.
