Eudora High School’s athletics department announced Wednesday the hiring of new football coach Kevin Kopecky.
Kopecky, who coached the past three seasons at Leavenworth High, replaces Gregg Webb, who resigned from his EHS coaching position to take over the football program at Truman High, in Independence, Mo.
Webb went 96-30 in 11 seasons at Eudora and took the Cardinals to the Class 4A championship game in 2011 and 2012.
Kopecky led Leavenworth to a 7-21 record the past three years. The Pioneers advanced to the playoffs in 2011. Before that, the 26-year coaching veteran led St. Thomas Aquinas from 1997 to 2009. His career mark stands at 157-119.
“We are extremely fortunate to hire a coach with coach Kopecky’s experience,” EHS principal G.A. Buie stated in a press release from the Eudora School District. “After visiting with Kevin, and with people who know him, a common theme continues to shine forward — that he cares about every student and athlete, and his goal is to build and develop character within each one of them. Eudora football might look different on the field next season, but we are still building champions.”
