LHS senior Strauss wins Dylan Meier award

Lawrence High senior football star Brad Strauss has been named the Dylan Meier Get Busy Livin’ Player of the Year.

Presented by Kpreps.com, the award goes to a Kansas high school football senior who combines excellence on the field with community involvement and integrity.

The award promotes the Get Busy Livin’ Foundation, established in Dylan Meier’s honor. Meier, a former all-state quarterback at Pittsburg and starter at Kansas State University, died in a hiking accident in 2010.

Strauss, a quarterback and safety at LHS, beat out fellow finalists Bishop Miege quarterback Montel Cozart, Emporia wide receiver and defensive back Jerel Morrow, Bishop Carroll quarterback Zeke Palmer, Blue Valley offensive lineman Clay Rhodes and Conway Springs quarterback and linebacker Tanner Wood.

Dylan Meier’s brothers, Shad and former Kansas University standout Kerry, are scheduled to present the award to Strauss, a Northwest Missouri State signee, at an LHS assembly on March 28.

“Brad is the perfect fit for the award, because he embodies the essence of what Dylan was about: tireless work ethic, great character, commanding leader and lives with a passion for life,” Shad Meier said in a release from Kpreps.com.

As part of the award, Mytown Media will make a donation of $1,000 on behalf of Strauss to the Dylan Meier GBL Foundation. The GBL also will honor Strauss with an $800 scholarship, as well as a $200 donation to the charity of his choice.
