Two Topeka residents were arrested early Thursday morning after leading several law enforcement agencies on a long highway pursuit from North Lawrence to Topeka.

Angela Marie Dixon, 24, and a Topeka man were arrested on U.S. Highway 24, just inside the eastern city limits of Topeka, near Kaw Valley Road, about 2:45 a.m.

The incident began about 2:10 a.m., when Lawrence police attempted to stop a 2001 GMC Jimmy near North Second and Locust streets in North Lawrence, acting on information from Topeka police who were seeking a parole violator, said Kim Murphree, a Lawrence Police Department spokeswoman. The driver of the GMC Jimmy refused to stop and traveled north on U.S. Highway 24-40, leading police and sheriff’s deputies from Douglas, Jefferson and Shawnee counties on a pursuit to the eastern edge of Topeka, where the vehicle crashed and Dixon and the male passenger were arrested. Dixon was arrested by the Lawrence Police Department and booked into Douglas County Jail on suspicion of DUI, fleeing and eluding, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. The Topeka man, who has not yet been identified, was arrested by the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident appears to be unrelated to the Topeka Police Department’s search for a homicide suspect who was captured in Nebraska Wednesday, according to the Topeka Capital-Journal.
