Veritas boys rout St. Mary’s

? Veritas’ boys basketball team more than doubled the score of its rival, St. Mary’s Academy, led by Thomas Bachert’s 12 points and Andrew Currier’s 11 points in a 47-23 victory on Tuesday night in St. Marys.

Veritas (15-5) hosts Marais des Cygnes in Eudora on Friday, the first of its final three games of the regular season.

“It’s really nice to win on their court. We never really let them get going,” said coach Gary Hammer.

“It’s just a real big rivalry because of the sports,” Hammer said. “The guys are really up to play because we have football players on the team. It’s tough to win there because they have a unique gym and a loud crowd and they have upset people there before.”

Veritas built a 17-6 first-quarter lead and never let the game get close.

“Our team defense was really aggressive, and we played with a lot of emotion and energy,” said Hammer.
