City basketball teams move up in Class 6A ranks
The city’s top two high school basketball teams — the Lawrence High boys and the Free State girls — both moved up a spot in the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Class 6A rankings, released Monday.
Coming off victories over Shawnee Mission West and Olathe North, the Lions (11-5) are No. 4 in this week’s top 10.
The Firebirds (12-4) defeated Leavenworth and lost to top-ranked Olathe South, 56-48, last week before moving up to No. 9 in the new rankings.
Ranked ahead of LHS are No. 1 Blue Valley Northwest, No. 2 Shawnee Mission East (which beat Lawrence Feb. 1) and No. 3 Wichita North. The Lions play host to 5A’s top team, unbeaten Shawnee Mission South, at 7 tonight.
FSHS plays at No. 6 Shawnee Mission Northwest tonight at 5:30.
