Nobel Prize winner to speak at Dole Institute next week

A Nobel Prize-winning economist will speak at Kansas University’s Dole Institute of Politics next week.

Robert Merton, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1997, will give a talk called “A Next-Generation Solution for Funding Retirement: A Case Study in Design and Implementation of Financial Innovation.”

The lecture will be at 1 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Dole Institute, 2350 Petefish Drive.

Merton, a financial economist, won his Nobel Prize for his work on the Black-Scholes-Merton model for pricing options, a method to determine the value of derivative securities.

KU alumnus and donor David Booth also will provide comments at the event. Campus TV station KUJH-TV will live-stream the talk, and it can be viewed on the KU School of Business website, business.ku.edu.
