Letter: Pressure point

To the editor:

The Republicans in the Kansas Legislature contradict themselves. They state, without proof, that teachers were being pressured to donate funds for political advocacy. Yet they feel no compunction in pressuring their own caucus to vote in certain ways.

According to Friday’s Journal-World article, “House deals blow to organized labor,” GOP leaders urged first-term legislators to stick with them. “We are going to try to cover your back,” stated House Speaker Pro Tem Peggy Mast. She continued, “It is just the beginning of a lot of tough votes.”

Who is pressuring whom?
