Aquahawks openings: The Aquahawks are always accepting new members. The Aquahawks are a year-round USA Swimming-sponsored competitive swim team. The Aquahawks offer a swim lesson program and competitive swim team for all ages. The Aquahawks are coached by professional coaches with weekly practices geared toward a variety of skill levels. Soccer leagues: Lawrence Parks & Recreation is now taking registration for the 2014 Boys & Girls Indoor Futsal (Soccer) Leagues Grades K-6. The cost is K-4th grades $40 and 5th & 6th grades $50. Basketball program: Lawrence Parks & Recreation and Lawrence USD #497 are now taking registration for the 2014 Boys Middle School Intramural Basketball Program for the sixth, seventh and eighth. Royal Crest youth leagues: Royal Crest Lanes will host youth bowling leagues on Saturday mornings beginning at 8:45 a.m. on Jan. 11. Sunflower Kids Wrestling: Sunflower Kids Wrestling Club sent 11 wrestlers to Osage City Christmas Tournament last weekend to kick off the season. All 11 club members medaled in the top four in their respective weight classes: Lou Elsten second place; Drew Streeter second; Grayson Hagan first; Jace Johnson third; Nolan Bradley third; Danny Parrish second; Jack Elsten third; Eric Streeter third; Adam Walther fourth; Joe Faircloth second; Caleb Streeter third.

Jayhawk Baseball Camp: The Jayhawk Baseball Camp has many different camp options for area youth in the coming months: a Holiday Skills Camp from Dec. 27-29, a variety of four-week hitting, pitching, and catching academies in January – April, and a two-day Spring Training Camp in March. Reaney award: Notre Dame junior swimmer Emma Reaney, a former Lawrence High standout, has received recognition from the Atlantic Coast Conference after the Irish went to Iowa City and dominated the competition to win the 2013 Hawkeye Invitational. Reaney, who was named ACC Women’s Swimmer of the Week, has earned four of the 10 weekly awards given out during the fall season, which bumps her total to 10 in three seasons between the Big East and ACC. After turning in an NCAA cut and meet record (2:07.64) in the prelims of the 200 breaststroke, Reaney went faster, smashing her own school record as well as the meet and pool records with an NCAA cut time of 2:05.85 in the finals. The time was also the best in the country.

Basketball clinic: Reign Basketball Academy, LLC., presents “Push the Rock” basketball clinic for youth boys and girls, ages 7-14. Cost is $20 per athlete. Cash or check only. Girls basketball clinic: Lawrence High girls basketball coach Nick Wood and Free State High girls coach Bryan Duncan will host a one day winter basketball clinic for girls in grades 4-8. Basketball tournament: MAYB will hold a basketball tournament in Lawrence for boys and girls in grades 3-8 on Saturday, Jan. 25th. There is a three-game guarantee, and the cost is $165. All games will be played at Lawrence High and Free State. For more info visit www.mayb.com

Junior Firebird dance clinic: The Free State Dancers will hold their annual Junior Firebird Dance Clinic from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12. It is open to girls ages preschool through sixth grade. It will be held at Free State High School. Participants will learn chants, the fight song, and an age appropriate dance that they will perform at half time of the Free State Varsity boys basketball game on Tuesday, Jan. 14. $35 if registered by Dec. 31. Baseball, softball training: A facility for indoor baseball and softball training is opening: Team Performance (12,000 square feet, four pitching lanes, six hitting cages, fielding space, personal training, etc.). KU volleyball clinic: The Kansas University Jayhawk Juniors Winter Volleyball clinich will run Sundays in January. The sessions (for grades K-5 and 6-8) will run 6-7:15 p.m. each night.
