Sidewalk snow ordinance in effect Thursday

The city of Lawrence’s sidewalk snow ordinance, which requires residents to shovel the sidewalks in front of their homes, will go into effect at 8 a.m. Thursday, the city announced.

The ordinance, which the city says is designed to make sidewalks safe for pedestrians, requires that property owners or occupants remove any snow or ice from sidewalks within 48 hours after the ice forms or the snowfall ends.

Residents can submit complaints or noncompliance issues starting at 8 a.m. Thursday via the city’s online code enforcement reporting system, www.lawrenceks.org/pds/code_violation, or by calling 785-832-7700.
