Man jailed after early Saturday shooting

A 21-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man was booked into the Douglas County Jail early this morning on suspicion of intent to commit second-degree murder after a bystander was shot in the leg outside a bar in downtown Lawrence.

Marck Edward Fristoe was booked into jail at 5:55 a.m. He is also facing charges of criminal property damage and domestic battery.

Sgt. Damon Thomas of the Lawrence Police Department described the victim, whose injury is not life threatening, as a bystander who was shot after an altercation broke out in a parking lot outside Brother’s Bar & Grill, 1105 Massachusetts St., at about 1:45 a.m.

Thomas said that an off-duty officer followed one of the vehicles that left the scene, leading police to locate Fristoe during a car stop near 13th Street and Haskell Avenue.

Journal-World news partner Operation 100 reported that police located a man with a single gunshot wound to the leg in the parking lot of the Lawrence Community Building, 115 W. 11th St., located near Brothers Bar & Grill. At least one vehicle was also damaged by gunfire.

Police did not release the identity of the gunshot victim on Saturday.

Fristoe, meanwhile, remains in jail without bond.
