Humane society reports theft of cans

The Lawrence Humane Society on Thursday reported the theft of about $200 worth of aluminum cans that had been donated by the community to raise money to care for homeless animals.

Shelter manager Cara Seats said the humane society discovered that the collection bin, which had been locked, had been broken into and “at least a car full of cans had been taken.”

“We are just really disappointed and saddened that this occurred so close to the holiday,” Seats said.

Seats said the bin was full before today as a recycling company typically visits Friday. She said she filed a police report with the Lawrence Police Department on Thursday.
