Lawrence man charged with several drug offenses

William Mitchell, 29 of Lawrence, has been charged with a series of drug-related offenses, according to a statement from U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom.

Mitchell’s charges include one count of conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine, one count of distributing crack cocaine, one count of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and one count of unlawful use of a telephone in furtherance of drug trafficking, according to the statement.

The offenses allegedly occurred Sep. 22, 2011 in Lawrence.

If convicted, Mitchell faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $1 million for each crack cocaine offense. The phone charge comes with a maximum penalty of four years in prison and a fine up to $250,000.
