LHS girls get first victory

? Lawrence High’s girls basketball team picked up its first win of the season Monday, a 75-22 victory over Kansas City (Kan.) Wyandotte.

Makayla Bell and Kionna Coleman paced the Lions with 15 points apiece. The Lions broke the game open early by outscoring Wyandotte 21-3 in the first quarter.

Coach Nick Wood said he hoped the Lions’ success against the Bulldogs could carry over into Friday’s matchup with Free State.

“It was a really good team win,” Wood said. “We need to build on this momentum as we get ready to take on Free State.”

The Lions (1-2) and the Firebirds will meet at 5:30 p.m. Friday at LHS.
