Freshman Wycoff lifts Seabury boys in opener; Seabury girls fall

Axtell — Freshman Mikey Wycoff scored 29 points in his debut, and the Bishop Seabury Academy boys basketball team opened its season Saturday with a victory over Axtell.

Seabury coach Ashley Battles called Wycoff “incredible” and praised his team’s effort against the defending 1A-Div. II state champions.

The Seahawks (1-0) will not play again until January.

Axtell 65, Seabury girls 31

Axtell — Mariah Smith scored 16 points, and Regan Zaremba added eight, but Seabury Academy’s girls basketball team fell to Axtell on Saturday.

Seabury (1-1) trailed 18-3 after one quarter and 40-10 at halftime.

“Although the girls put out great effort, we didn’t have the size or the depth to keep up with the Axtell team,” Seabury coach Keith Smith said. “But I was very proud of their effort and their teamwork.”

Reilly Malone scored five points and Celia Taylor two for Seabury.
