KU swimmer 2nd at USA Winter Nationals

? Kansas University’s Chelsie Miller placed second in the 400-meter individual medley Friday to lead a group of four KU swimmers at the USA Winter Nationals.

Miller swam a season-best time of 4:08.86 and finished behind Cal’s Celina Li, who won with 4:06.54.

“It was a tremendous swim all the way around,” KU coach Clark Campbell said. “She had a good morning swim in the prelims to put her in the top eight. She put together four good strokes for the final race and set a new in-season record in the process. Any time you are on the podium at a national championship, it gets everyone excited.”

In morning preliminaries, KU’s Yulya “Yulduz” Kuchkarova placed 30th in the 100 back, Bryce Hinde took 28th in the 100 breast and Alison Lusk was 49th in the 100 breast. Only the top 24 in each event advanced to afternoon finals. All four Jayhawks at Nationals will swim again today.

The rest of the KU swimming and diving team will host William Jewel in a dual at 2 p.m. today in Robinson Natatorium.
