The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Douglas County wasted no time putting its submitted edible real estate onto the market Thursday night. A new approach to the annual gingerbread house viewing and auction festival had the bidding begin at the outset.

The festival features more than 60 entries from community members as part of a silent auction and 15 larger ones for live bidding at Abe & Jake’s Landing, 8 E. Sixth St. More than just houses on display as well — a volcano, Christmas tree, Santa’s sled and more are part of the show as well.

The candy constructions will remain on display through Saturday. They can be seen at Abe & Jake’s from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. The proceeds of the auction go to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Douglas County.
