Two people were taken to area hospitals with serious but not life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle in a Target parking lot this afternoon, Lawrence police say.
A man and a woman were hit shortly after noon near the south exit doors of the Target in the 3200 block of Iowa Street, said Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman.
A LifeStar helicopter was called but fire-medical staff decided to take the man by ground to a Kansas City-area hospital. The woman was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, McKinley said.
McKinley said the identities of the driver and the pedestrians would likely be released by Friday. Police have cordoned off the section where the accident occurred to conduct an investigation and McKinley said the driver is being interviewed this afternoon. Target security camera footage will also likely be used, he added.
