Lawrence Libations: Ruest at Bourgeois Pig

Ruest, or amped

While the cold weather makes leaving the house that much harder, the hot seasonal beverages that await us might just be convincing enough. Warm up at The Bourgeois Pig with a drink the bartender refers to as “amped apple cider,” a seasonal favorite.

This Ruest is made with hot cider, Tuaca liqueur (brandy, orange essence and vanilla), and Leopold’s apple whiskey, and topped with whipped cream and a cinnamon stick. It’s for apple cider lovers who aren’t messing around. It arrives in a tall glass, full of holiday joy.

Spiked cider (brandy) is also on the menu, but with this hardcore option, it’s hard to choose such a standard beverage.

The hard stuff: Tuaca, Leopold’s Apple Whiskey

Where it’s served: Bourgeois Pig, 6 E. Ninth St.

What it costs: $9

Other libations at this location: Wine, beer, and specialty drinks like the popular Moscow Mule, served in a copper cup. Other seasonal drinks include the Boulevard Nutcracker, Black Smithfield (chambord and Jameson Mocha), Corretto Con Panna (prepared whipped cream, white sambuca, espresso), Irish Coffee, Soft Picasso (honey, Frangelico, chocolate bitters, chai), spiked cider, Tosca (brandy and hot chocolate), and Work of Mercy (Tuaca, cold press coffee, Old Rasputin Imperial Stout).
