Eagle Rock Church to put on anti-suicide play

Beginning this weekend, Eagle Rock Church will perform an anti-suicide play, titled “Eli’s Amazing Workshop.”

If you go:

“Eli’s Amazing Workshop” will be performed Dec. 6-8 and 13-15 at Eagle Rock Church, 3200 Haskell Ave.

Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7 p.m. Sunday shows begin at 3 p.m. Doors open one hour before the start of the show.

Free to the public.

For advance tickets, call 393-6791.

The play is based on a children’s book, “You are Special” by Max Lucado, about a puppet who comes to realize that he is special. The play will feature music, laughs and a Dr. Seuss-esque stage, according to church founder and director Lisa McFarland.

The church will perform the play throughout the weekends of Dec. 6 and 13. There is no cost of admission and every guest will receive a free hot dog, drink and popcorn.

Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6. Sunday shows begin at 3 p.m., with doors opening at 2.

McFarland said it’s first ever play put on by the church. She said she chose it after reading media coverage of the suicide rate in the Lawrence-Douglas County area over the past several years.

“That really got me stirred up,” McFarland said.

The performances will be held at Eagle Rock Church, 3200 Haskell Ave. To reserve tickets, call 393-6791.
