Police have identified but not located a Lawrence man suspected of leading police on a chase Tuesday before abandoning a rental car containing a stun gun and marijuana.

A police officer smelled marijuana coming from a parked grey 2014 Nissan Altima with Missouri tags in the lot of the Wal-Mart on Iowa Street at about 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, said Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman. The officer approached the car and told the two occupants to leave the vehicle, and the driver rolled the window up and fled, McKinley said. During the pursuit, the suspect quickly became caught in traffic at 31st and Iowa, then drove over a concrete median into the southbound lane.

The officer abandoned pursuit for safety reasons. The suspect was last seen turning north on Lawrence Avenue. About five minutes later, McKinley said, a resident in the 2500 block of Atchison Avenue reported a vehicle driving through back yards in the area.

Officers discovered the vehicle abandoned and containing keys, a stun gun, marijuana and other personal items, said McKinley, who added that the driver faces several charges, McKinley said.

"a resident in the 2500 block of Atchison Avenue reported a vehicle driving through back yards in the area."

That type of dangerous and irresponsible behavior can be reduced by planting trees and installing fences!
