From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Aug. 28, 1973:
- An "honored and humble" Archie Reece Dykes today was installed as Kansas University's 13th chancellor. About 3,000 people gathered at Allen Fieldhouse to witness the simple installation ceremony and to hear Dykes' inaugural address. Gov. Robert Docking made brief remarks, predicting that Dykes would "become one of the illustrious chancellors in the history of the University of Kansas."
- Enrollment at KU on the first day of classes showed a modest increase this year, with a total of 19,241 students on the Lawrence and Kansas City Medical Center campuses. In Lawrence, 17,652 students were enrolled, 10,571 men and 7,081 women.
- The Lawrence City Commission this week was to consider new rules for mobile homes. A city staff report to be presented to commissioners recommended that all new mobile homes have over-the-top tie-downs and that all new mobile home parks have group shelters. The report also included the recommendation of an annual mobile home licensing fee of between 50 cents and $1 to offset the cost of inspection.
