Lawrence home school team adds six sports

The Independence Home School, based out of Lawrence, will compete in six more sports this coming school year, its second in existence.

The Lions fielded eight-man football and boys basketball teams last year and will add volleyball, boys and girls cross country, girls basketball and boys and girls track.

Independence’s boys basketball team won the National Division II Christian Home School Basketball Championship tournament by defeating Lincoln, Neb., 70-50, last winter.

IHS serves homeschoolers within a 50-mile radius of Lawrence, and the home school’s teams have been approved for competition by the Kansas State High School Activities Association.

Those interested in the teams can visit ihssports.org, and direct questions to Independence athletic director and basketball coach Ric Mitchall, at ric@ihssports.org or (785) 760-3700.
