Kansas Tick-Borne Disease Advocates Inc. is seeking volunteers to assist with its annual fundraising event, “Hope for Healing,” which includes a 5K Race/Walk and Wellness Festival, on May 11 at South Park, 14th and Massachusetts streets. Volunteers are needed to help with registration of race participants, distribution of T-shirts and refreshment tables, and to serve as race marshals. Help is also needed with overall setup and cleanup tasks. Volunteer training will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at 2518 Ridge Court. Other immediate needs

• Theatre Lawrence creates and delivers theater and education programs for community members of all ages. Theatre Lawrence will be processing a massive mailing for upcoming activities. Volunteers are needed for stuffing envelopes and adhering labels on envelopes. Work sessions are scheduled for April 23, 24 and 25, starting at 10 a.m. each day. • Tenants to Homeowners Inc. empowers tenants to become homeowners through programs for education, construction and creative financing, and strives to create a permanent stock of affordable housing in Lawrence. Tenants to Homeowners is currently planning for its annual fundraiser, “Every Home Can Be A Castle.” The event is a silent auction on Sept 22. • The Black Jack Battlefield Park contains the Black Jack Battlefield and the Pearson Farmstead home, as well as a nature park. The park helps tell the story of the unique role that the battle played in our history. Volunteer tour guides are needed to lead narrated tours of the property. Tours begin on Saturday, May 4, and run each Saturday through Oct. 19. Volunteers need to be at the property, a few miles east of Baldwin City on U.S. Highway 56, from 12:45 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Training for volunteers is provided. • The March of Dimes gives support to programs that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies, and it funds research to find answers to serious problems that threaten babies. On Saturday, April 27, the March of Dimes will have a one-mile or three-mile March for Babies Walk, beginning at 10 a.m. at the South Park Gazebo. The event is in need of volunteers to set up and take down tables, oversee food and beverage tables, help with registration, hand out water, instruct walkers where to go, and hand out stickers at the finish line. • The Douglas County AIDS Project provides supportive and responsive care for anyone affected by HIV/AIDS. The agency is looking for an individual with a business background and a network of local connections to serve on its board of directors. Board members serve a three-year term.
