From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for April 20, 1988:

• Lawrence police today said that they were investigating three recent incidents in which a man, impersonating a police officer, had phoned elderly women telling them that thieves were in their area and making appointments to check their homes. In the first call, the imposter had told the woman that several juveniles had been found near her home with property belonging to her. He had then asked the woman whether she had any valuables in the house and had made an appointment to check her residence. In the other two calls, the man had used similar tactics. Police officials were warning residents who received such calls to ask the officer’s name and then call the police dispatcher to locate the officer.
• Max Falkenstien, commentator and color analyst for the Jayhawk Radio Network, was one of seven people to be appointed today to a newly formed board of trustees for the Kansas All-Sports Hall of Fame.
