For the second year in a row, Kansas University’s design department has won the top academic award at a national student graphic arts show.

The KU Department of Design won the Best School honor at this year’s National Student Show in Dallas on Saturday after doing the same at last year’s event. A number of KU design students won individual awards for their work, as well. Among the student awards:

• Best Senior Portfolio: Anna DeFazio, of Wichita.

• Best Junior Portfolio: Sally Carmichael, of Lenexa.

• Best Sophomore Portfolio: Jonathan Heter, of Lawrence.

Altogether, KU students won more than half of the $15,000 in prize money awarded at the show, which is put on each year by the Dallas Society of Visual Communicators.

The design department is part of KU’s School of Architecture, Design and Planning.
