Letter: Grateful for help

To the editor:

Several students and staff arrived at various times Saturday between 10:15 a.m. and 2 p.m. I had requested assistance with our yard after receiving their flyer. The leader was Dave, and with a greeting, some minor instructions as to where tools/bottled water were located and the items most needed to be done, he went immediately to work. Soon, three other students and KU staff arrived, ready to do work. When some had to leave, others arrived to take their places.

When they all had left, the flower beds had been cleaned of winter trash, the yard raked, top soil that had been ordered had been used to fill in low places and some outside window washing was done.

My husband and I are in our early 80s with some health problems, and the kindness, dedication to a job well done and energy of the volunteers was such a great blessing to us. We will never be able to repay this effort but hope this letter expresses our profound thanks!
