Kelley Hunt to perform at The Bottleneck Thursday

Roots and R&B singer/songwriter Kelley Hunt is performing a rare show in her hometown of Lawrence on Thursday at The Bottleneck, 737 New Hampshire St.

Kelley Hunt.

Hunt, who has been touring nationally and internationally with her band on and off for the past year, has also been working on creating new music for her next album. At her show Thursday night, Hunt plans to play music from her newest album, “Gravity Loves You,” and a handful of songs from previous ones, but she also will be testing out music she’s been writing and recording for her upcoming release.

“I really like being able to perform stuff live and road test things,” Hunt said. “I’ll play some songs at the show I’m seriously considering, and it’s a chance for live audience reaction.”

This show is also different for Hunt because she typically doesn’t play shows at clubs and normally performs at venues such as Liberty Hall. Hunt is excited to perform in a more intimate venue like The Bottleneck.

“It’s been years since I’ve played there, but it’s a cool venue,” Hunt said. “It’s a good vibe there.”

Hunt is looking forward to playing in a different venue and trying out some music that could possibly make her next record, but she’s most happy to be playing for fans at the place she calls home.

“There’s something kind of special about being able to do what you do in the world in your hometown,” Hunt said.

Doors open for the show at 7 p.m. and it begins at 8 p.m. The show is all ages. Tickets are $16 and are available at thebottlenecklive.com or at the door.
