Police seeking suspect in robbery of laptop at Lawrence Visitor Center

Police are seeking a suspect in the robbery of a laptop computer early Sunday morning from an 80-year-old man at the Lawrence Visitor Center, 402 North Second St.

The man told police he was sitting outside the visitor center about 12:45 a.m. Sunday, using the center’s free wireless Internet hotspot, when a man snatched the computer away and ran to a waiting vehicle, which sped away, said Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman.

The suspect was described as a white man in his 30s or 40s, between 5 feet 6 inches and 6 feet tall, with a short beard. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a blue bandana around his forehead as a sweatband. The suspect vehicle was a white passenger car that fled east on Elm Street, McKinley said.
