Big Brother Big Sisters to hold Bowl for Kids’ Sake this weekend

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Douglas County will kick off its annual fundraiser this week.

Stacie Salverson-Schroeder, Douglas County executive director, said the organization will hold its annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake this weekend at Royal Crest Lanes, 933 Iowa St.

“Bowling is just a fun way to celebrate after working to raise money,” she said.

Lanes are reserved on Friday at 4 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. Salverson-Schroeder said 58 teams have signed up so far, and one bowling session, Friday at 6 p.m., is already full. Bowl for Kids’ Sake is the largest fundraiser for the group, and teams are asked to set pledge goals of at least $750. Teams can turn pledge money in when they come to bowl.

There is no deadline to sign up, but those wanting to participate are asked to contact Big Brothers Big Sisters at 785-843-7359.

Aside from fundraising, Salverson-Schroeder said the local Big Brothers Big Sisters organization is participating in a nationwide initiative to reconnect past “Big Brothers” or “Big Sisters” with their “Littles.” She said Reunite Now gives people a chance to get involved in the organization again.

“It allows us to reconnect people that were matched a long time ago,” she said.
