From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for April 8, 1973:

• The “missing piece” of the Watkins Museum building mentioned earlier had been located. The spire had been knocked off the roof by lightning and had rested undisturbed for some time at the rear of the building before a law intern from a local judge’s office had taken it to the courthouse for preservation. City officials had told the judge that they were not interested in the little pinnacle, as it would be too much trouble to put it back, so he had put it in his basement where it remained until the judge had seen the appeal in the newspaper.
• According to an agenda published for an upcoming meeting, city commissioners were scheduled to discuss an ordinance changing the name of Goodrich Road to Packer Road and another to include within the city limits a tract of about five acres west of Kasold Drive. The commission was also to consider a site plan for Stanion Wholesale Electric on East 22nd Terrace and another plan for a building addition in the Hillcrest Shopping Center.
• Cooperative Farm Chemicals Association announced today that they would construct a fertilizer plant at its Lawrence facilities. Construction was expected to begin immediately on the $7 million plant, said general manager Allen Hoffman, with completion expected by early 1974. The new plant was to provide employment for about 20 people, in addition to the 290 already working at the CFCA facility just east of Lawrence on K-10.
