• A 30-year-old former Wellsville police officer signed a diversion agreement with Douglas County prosecutors Friday after being charged with animal cruelty. In the agreement, Jacob Daniel Stus admitted he killed a feral cat on his property by shooting it with an arrow and crushing its head with a blunt object. Prosecutors agreed to dismiss the case if Stus pays $345 in court costs and follows the terms of the diversion for two years.

• A 19-year-old Lawrence man has been sentenced to 12 months of probation in connection with a November incident in which he was confronted by residents while breaking into an apartment. Michael P. Mason was sentenced Tuesday in Douglas County District Court after being found guilty of burglary last month. The charge had been reduced from aggravated burglary as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors. State sentencing guidelines, which calculate the type of offense and Mason’s relative lack of a criminal history, required a sentence of probation, said Douglas County District Court Judge Kay Huff.

• A 23-year-old man accused of shooting a firearm into an occupied vehicle early New Year’s Day has been found guilty of criminal possession of a firearm by a felon.

Willie D. Fleming pleaded no contest to the charge in Douglas County District Court and is scheduled to be sentenced on May 9. Fleming could face up to 23 months in prison.

• A 49-year-old Lawrence woman who let a 13-year-old drive a car that struck a telephone pole in North Lawrence in July has been found guilty of child endangerment. Lori Jane Huske was sentenced March 29 in Douglas County District Court, after pleading guilty to two counts of child endangerment in February. She also pleaded guilty, in a separate case, to illegal possession of prescription Adderall pills. Huske was sentenced to 12 months of probation, with a 12-month jail sentence and a 13-month prison sentence suspended on the condition that she complete the probation.

• A 26-year-old McLouth man was sentenced to 18 months of probation in connection with his arrest in January after police seized methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia from his home. Landon Stevenson had been found guilty of possession of methamphetamine in Jefferson County District Court on March 7. Stevenson could face 13 months in prison if the probation is revoked.

• A 30-year-old Lawrence man has been found guilty of aggravated endangerment of a child and DUI in connection with a December incident in which he was arrested after striking a utility pole with a vehicle in which an 8-month old child was a passenger.

Farron L. Tso pleaded no contest to the charges Thursday in Douglas County District Court and is scheduled to be sentenced on May 10.
