Veritas volleyball sweeps at Manhattan CHIEF tourney

? Veritas Christian School’s volleyball team piled up five wins in a sweep through the Manhattan CHIEF tournament on Saturday.

Veritas defended its title at the tournament, which it won last year.

The Eagles began the day by taking down Lincoln (Neb.) Home School, 25-22, 25-17, and Omaha (Neb.) Home School, 25-14, 25-23. Then, Veritas played three matches in a row, defeating host Manhattan CHIEF, 25-13, 25-20, Derby Home School, 25-20, 26-24, and K.C. East, 18-25, 25-20, 15-12.

“The girls showed a lot of mental toughness in fighting through the tiredness and coming out with a win after losing that first set,” Veritas coach Mike Bartlow said.

Teri Huslig led Veritas with 39 kills, 12 aces and 17 digs. Huslig also had 41 assists on the day and was named to the all-tournament team with fellow Eagle Abi Bartlow.

Lacey Billings (48 assists, 18 kills, 11 aces), Ali Dover (12 kills, three blocks), Rebekah Andersson (11 kills, four blocks) and Madi Bennett (13 digs) also got on the stat sheet for Veritas.

The Eagles (16-3) will host Bishop Seabury and K.C. East at 5 p.m. Tuesday in a home match at the Eudora Rec Center.
