Newton ? Free State’s Bailey Sullivan ran to a second-place finish as the Firebirds girls varsity team took third on Saturday at the Newton CC Invitational.

Sullivan crossed the finish line in 15:45, followed by Molly McCord (eighth place, 16:25) and Rosemary Newsome (12th place, 16:37).

Fletcher Koch led the Firebirds’ boys varsity with a 15th-place finish in 17:39. John Corbett was two spots behind with a 17:43, and FSHS placed fourth in the team standings.

The Firebirds will race at Haskell next Saturday.
