From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Sept. 30, 1972:

• Although former Kansas University chancellor Laurence Chalmers had recently been named the director of the Art Institute of Chicago, he was to be carried on the KU payroll for the next six months. The Kansas Board of Regents had recently appointed Chalmers a professor of psychology on leave for a period of six months and had granted him a salary of $10,000 for that period, regardless of whether he found another job during that time. Chalmers had not yet officially yielded his tenured post as professor.
• Applications had begun arriving for the post of principal at Lawrence High School. A job description, conditions of employment, and procedure for application had been sent to about 40 placement agencies at Midwest universities.Interviews were expected to begin sometime in November. The Lawrence school board had agreed to release LHS Principal William Medley by Jan. 22 to become principal of a high school in Wilmington, Delaware.
