The Joan L. Wells Invitational volleyball tournament returns to Lawrence High today, with matches beginning at 9 a.m.

The Lions (9-6) will be grouped in Pool A (in the main gymnasium) and face Dodge City, Shawnee Mission Northwest and Blue Valley in the morning.

Pool B (playing in the west gym) consists of Shawnee Heights (ranked No. 3 in the Kansas Volleyball Association’s Class 5A rankings), Blue Valley Northwest, Maize (receiving votes in the 6A rankings) and Shawnee Mission East.

The top two teams from each pool advance to the gold bracket in the main gym, while the others move to the silver consolation bracket in the west gym. Bracket play is expected to begin early in the afternoon.

Spectators can take part in the tournament’s “pink out” by wearing pink to support breast-cancer awareness.
