Library to unveil banned book cards

The Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt., is hosting a reception at 7:30 p.m. Friday to unveil the winners of its Banned Books Week Trading Card contest.

Staff will unveil seven banned book trading cards selected as part of a competition in collaboration with the Lawrence Arts Center.

All 48 submitted pieces created by artists will be on display for a week at the library beginning Sunday. The winning pieces will also be on display at the arts center. Beginning Sunday, one trading card made from the selected artworks will be made available each day at the arts center and library for the public to collect.

Banned Books Week is a national event during which many libraries curate events relating to intellectual freedom.

Drinks and dessert will be available at the reception.
