From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Sept. 26, 1972:

The phrase “car-jacking” was not yet in common use, but that describes the action that had preceded the crime of rape when a woman had been forcibly abducted from a street in downtown Ottawa this week. Shortly after 2 p.m. on the previous Monday, a man described as having long hair and a heavy mustache had held a knife to the ribs of a 27-year-old woman who had just entered her car, ordering her to move over to the passenger side. After driving the car to a field four miles west of Ottawa on K-68, the man had sexually molested the woman, leaving her in the field and driving her car back to Ottawa. The crime was very similar to another case the previous week, with the difference of the perpetrator having used a pistol instead of a knife while threatening the woman.
